Ediciones Vigía’s brilliance at the 32nd Havana International Book Fair

The presence of Ediciones Vigía in the Havana International Book Fair for three decades has been maintained with the same brilliance in the current 32nd edition, with a stand suggestive of its essences and the display of the beautiful art books that they tenaciously produce in the City of Rivers and Bridges.

Who better than its director, Agustina Ponce, to take us into the work that characterizes this particular and award-winning publishing house from Matanzas:

Ediciones Vigía worked for this International Fair on a large eight-meter mural, using newspaper as a base and on it, a phrase by José Martí that says: «Men must be made of light and they must give light.

«From that idea, three children hold lamps, from which a huge Cuban flag sprouts, from it and from the Island of Cuba that is at its feet, many quinqués made by the little Matanceros are born.

«The lamp is the symbol of our publishing house and with this we preserve the Vigía project and also how hopeful it can be for a country to believe in its new generations in order to give them the power to create and change their environment.»

What proposals did Ediciones Vigía bring to the meeting with the capital’s readers?

«The stand has exhibited the last books made during 2022 and 2023 because we left for the Matanzas Fair the ones we are currently making.

«It is worth mentioning that in Havana we presented the book Palabras de canje, by writer Erian Peña Pupo, with design by Héctor Raúl Rivero. It is a notebook that although it has 200 copies, the covers vary in color, using fabrics of different shades, to offer the author’s discourse, which reflects the changes of life.

«In a general way, there are authors such as Luis M. Pérez Boitel, Zurelys López, Carilda Oliver Labra together with Raidel Hernández, with his text Decían, plus other writers from Matanzas and Cuba.»

The Matanzas Book Fair, from March 6th to 10th, promises surprises from Ediciones Vigía, at its location on Magdalena Street on the corner of Río, next to the San Juan promenade and in the heart of the city’s foundational square.
