In my heart I will carry the encouragement on behalf of the Cuban trova of all times, said today Silvio Rodriguez, outstanding trova singer, upon receiving the Honorary Doctorate Degree in Social Sciences and Humanities, awarded by the University of Havana (UH).

In the presence of Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, in the Aula Magna of the UH, the renowned artist expressed the ties that bind him to the institution and the historical links with the Faculty that gives him the high award.

It is indescribable to be recognized by this institution through which so many personalities have passed and made history and especially if this happens in the country where we were born, to say thank you is not enough for such a generous gesture, said the author of Ojalá and evoked important moments that unite him to the house of high studies.

Dr. Manuel Calviño was in charge of the words of praise and highlighted Silvio, troubadour, composer, human being; Dr. Miriam Nicado, rector of the UH, presented the Doctor Honoris Causa Degree, and the students of the Faculty of Design gave a folder containing posters that include iconic songs of the artist, while the National Choir of Cuba, conducted by Digna Guerra, performed works such as El Necio, Locuras and El Escaramujo, among others.

Silvio Rodríguez Domínguez (San Antonio de los Baños, 1946) has an extensive body of work that transcends the island’s borders. He is the founder of the New Trova Movement and the ICAIC Sound Experimentation Group, along with other outstanding musicians, is a symbol of resistance and his songs are sung by thousands of people around the world.
