The participation of Matanzas publishers and writers in this year’s edition of the Havana International Book Fair, which has been taking place in the Cuban capital since February 15 and will continue until Sunday, is excellent.

With a significant number of literary novelties, Ediciones Aldabón, from the Hermanos Saiz Association in Matanzas, and Ediciones Matanzas won several prizes this Friday.

Horario abierto (Open Hours), by Marta Valdés, La puerta de papel (The Paper Door Grand Prize)

Horario abierto, by Cuban composer Marta Valdés, winner of the National Music Prize, published by Ediciones Matanzas, was awarded the Gran Premio La puerta de papel, a prize granted by the Cuban Book Institute to the best editions of the year.

The jury qualified this proposal as a wonderful text and valued that it stands out «for the quality of the texts that make up the volume, the careful work of Alfredo Zaldívar Muñoa in the edition and Johann Enrique Trujillo in the design», in addition to the illustrations by Sigfredo Ariel and Rolando Estévez and the work of Marbelis Díaz in the corrections.

Likewise, the publishing house headed by Zaldívar Muñoa, winner of the National Publishing Award, won one of the Reader’s Prizes for the book A la sombra de un león, by Eldys Baratute, as well as Rosa de los vientos, a personal anthology by José Manuel Espino with poems for children and young people, published by Ediciones Aldabón.

Two texts from the Santiago and El Abra publishing houses, respectively, were also recognized for achieving the highest sales index and remaining among the public’s preferences. The AHS publishing house in Holguin, Ediciones La Luz, in addition to its prize La puerta de papel, won the Grand Prize among the Reader’s Prizes.

MATANCERAS LITERARY HARVESTS AT THE 32ND BOOK FAIR.

Israel Domínguez was awarded the prize of the Mini-Story Contest «El dinosaurio».

 

During this week other relevant awards were given to writers from Matanzas. This is the case of the Mini-Story Contest Award El dinosaurio to Israel Domínguez, for his work Perfeccionista.

The jury for its selection took into account «the high degree of conciseness and connotation, achieved within an extreme brevity and economy of language, as well as for the semantic ambiguity and interpretative possibilities that the text offers.»

Calendar Awards Ceremony.

 

Náthaly Hernández Chávez and Iramís Rosique Cárdenas won the Calendar Awards in the science fiction and essay categories, respectively. In this contest, the sociologist, troubadour and writer from Matanzas, Rey Montalvo, also received a mention.

Also presented at this time were publications such as Todas las bestias de la tierra (All the Beasts of the Earth), Portus Patris award for narrative, by journalist and writer Yeilén Delgado Calvo, under the seal of Editorial Sanlope; Subsuelos, by Leymen Pérez, winner of the Critics’ Prize 2022, by Letras Cubanas; the ebook Cómo murió Martí. Un análisis desde la Ciencia Forense, by Dr. Ercilio Vento Canosa, under the seal of Ediciones Luminaria, from Santi Spíritus; the poetry book Pirámide Inversa, by Carlos Ettiel Gómez, which won the Regino Boti Award, from the publishing house El mar y la Montaña, from Guantánamo and Diarios del encierro, by poet Luis Lexandel Pita García, which was published by the publishing house El Abra and won the first prize for Poetry in the contest Fundación de la Ciudad de Nueva Gerona in 2023.

The work of Leymen Perez as editor of important titles in the 32nd FIL should be highlighted.

It is also necessary to highlight the work of Leymen Perez in the edition of several publications, whose presentations he has been in charge of and the participation of young writers from Matanzas in events such as the Meeting of Young Writers of Ibero-America and the Meeting of Poetry Promoters, among them Raul Piad, Luis Enrique Mirambert and Náthaly Hernández Chávez.

This afternoon, Carpentier, la otra novela, the first biography dedicated to the Cuban intellectual, will be presented by researcher and writer Urbano Martínez Carmenate, winner of the National History Award, who will receive the José Luciano Franco Historical Criticism Award for his book Fray Candil, la pluma del diablo (Friar Candil, the Devil’s Feather).
