The eternal «Fefa» of the Committee.
The Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), the largest mass organization in Cuba, celebrates its 64th anniversary in 2024, immersed in the socio-political processes that the nation is going through and with a strong protagonism of the youth.
In a speech made on September 28th, 1960 in front of the former Presidential Palace (now the Museum of the Revolution), the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, announced the creation of a group to defend from the neighborhood the work born on January 1st.
Among the people who enthusiastically and committedly joined the CDR tasks, María Josefa Morales Ramos, a matancera known by all as «Fefa», stood out.
Coordinator of her area, «Fefa» also became the inspiration for the creation of the cartoon Chuncha, characterized by an active old woman, tireless cederista and always ready to help neighbors.
With enough merits, this matancera standard bearer of the achievements of the Revolution and admirer of Fidel and Raul, reached the status of National Vanguard in emulation for several periods, in addition to participating in six of the eight congresses of the CDR.
She also received numerous decorations and awards such as the 28th of September Distinction, the 23rd of August and the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba awarded her the Medal for the Defense of the Homeland and the Unity of the Neighborhood, while for her outstanding work with the masses in her area she received the Neighborhood Award.
The beloved and admired «Fefa» passed away on January 6th, 2015 in Matanzas, at the age of 96, leaving a trail of virtues and becoming a paradigm for future generations.
