Tobacco growers from Betancourt are honoured on their day (+photos and audio)
The workers of the Empresa de Acopio y Beneficio del Tabaco in Pedro Betancourt municipality celebrated the 112th anniversary of the birth of the workers’ leader Lázaro Peña with an emotional political-cultural event.
Together with the highest authorities of the territory, those present praised the legacy of the man who is historically recognised as «Captain of the working class» and founder of the Cuba Trade Worker Union, and at the same time praised the progress of the sector in the territory.
The occasion was also an opportunity to celebrate the most outstanding tobacco workers and to exhort those present to improve their work in order to guarantee the fulfilment of the production indicators and, consequently, to face the country’s complex economic situation.
Alain Prado Cazañas, director of Tobacco Collection and Processing of the Matanzas provincial company, told our radio station that the Day of the Tobacco Worker is celebrated in Cuba every May 29th and becomes a scenario to stimulate those who put heart and dedication to the elaboration of this important product of our Island and of remarkable international scope.
