Update on the massive accident in the vicinity of Matanzas
The accident that took place this morning in the vicinity of Santa Cruz del Norte, Mayabeque province, resulted in two deaths and three people in serious condition, one of them life-threatening.
One of them is a ten year-old girl, Nayelis González Villamil, from the municipality of Quivicán, Artemisa province, who is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit with severe cranial trauma.
The infants Estefany González Villamil, 13 years old, in the orthopedic ward, and Harly Romero Cruz, 7 years old, are also out of danger.
The Faustino Pérez hospital in the city of Matanzas received eight injured adults, two of whom died in the emergency intensive care unit.
The remaining six injured in this morning’s accident between a tanker truck and another that was transporting hikers from the municipality of Quivicán to the Varadero beach resort, two remain in serious condition, an equal number in care and also two under observation.
The competent authorities are investigating the causes of the unfortunate event and insist drivers to be extremely careful on the road, especially now in these summer months when people are transported to recreational areas.
