Solidarity with eastern Cuba continues. The staff of the Matanzas branch of Cuban Medical Services collected 29 boxes of various supplies destined for provinces affected by Hurricane Melissa last October.
Mercedes García Maceiras, general secretary of the union bureau, thanked the healthcare professionals and technicians for their response, a manifestation of “the human spirit characteristic of our people, who have so often shared what they have,” she stated.
The provincial secretariat of the Health Workers Union expressed its “great pride in representing a group that is always the first to step forward in any task, all altruistic and committed to the revolution and the Cuban people.”
García Maceiras added that the donations were made by members of the family doctor’s office network operating in Varadero hotels, and by the International Clinic, which on July 15th celebrated its 50th anniversary, having become a de facto benchmark for medical care for foreign tourists.
Fulfilling international commitments is part of the MINSAP’s (Ministry of Public Health) work objectives, and medical services are integrated into this framework. This includes patient care within the country and through other marketing options to generate income both from abroad and within Cuba.
The International Clinic also contributed to meeting the targets, expenses, average income, and service exports, enabling Cuban Medical Services Matanzas Branch to earn the prestigious National Vanguard award, which they received on this memorable day.
The Matanzas branch of Cuban Medical Services and its staff thus joined the dozens of centers in this region that have embraced the call of the Cuban Workers’ Federation and its national unions, under the slogan «My arms and my contribution for a Cuban worker.»
