EMPERCAP celebrates Oilfield Workers’ Day

With productive and union results, managers and employees of the Oil and Gas Well Drilling and Capital Repair Company, EMPERCAP, are celebrating Oil Workers’ Day, instituted on 1st July 2012.

«To have obtained the superior category of National Vanguard for the results of 2022 summarizes the behavior of our labor collective, and the greatest joy with which we celebrate the anniversary of our sector, very strategic for the energy of the country», confessed Didier Tassé Pantoja, general secretary of the union bureau of EMPERCAP.

Tassé Pantoja told Radio 26 that to date the good performance of the indicators has a palpable effect on the income of the workers, who benefit from pay-for-performance systems and every three months they receive their profits.

Founded in February 2003, EMPERCAP takes advantage of July 1st to pay tribute to employees with 40, 25 and 20 years in the oil activity, one of the most important sectors in the productive structure of the province of Matanzas.

With four decades in this sphere, Jorge López Pérez, an assistant oil worker in the Central Intervention Equipment Division, confesses that he fell in love with his job as soon as he set foot in a work center from which he finds it hard to «get away», he smiles, «although I still have two years to go before I retire».

With men like these, the miracle of drilling, repairing or maintaining wells is made possible, says Tassé, patting the shoulder of one of EMPERCAP’s young men.

«We have lived through difficult times with the exodus of the workforce, but this generational mix keeps the spirit of our company alive,» he proudly assures.

In these days of celebrations, the soul of EMPERCAP transcends, with that special way of serving its people. That is why it is normal to see images of the tours through historic centers of the city of Matanzas or Havana, as they spread on their Facebook social network.

EMPERCAP, a company that is hardly talked about, has an essential weight in the generation of electricity in the country. Most of the country’s plants operate with Cuban crude oil. For that oil to become a reality, first the troops of this national company must guarantee the wells, drill them, and be attentive to any imponderable that may arise where the oil is extracted.

Eight divisions make up this national company belonging to Cuba Petróleo and made up of logistics and maintenance, drilling, intervention teams, transport and securing, special operations, western intervention and the Majagua brigade.

When a light comes on in our homes, or suddenly arrives after a blackout, few imagine that behind the arrival of the current are the men and women of EMPERCAP.

Oil Workers’ Day is celebrated on July 1st in remembrance of the fact that on that day in 1960 Esso Standard Oil was intervened after refusing to process Soviet crude oil and closing the access road to its facilities, in clear violation of the Mining Law in force at the time.
