International Puppetry Festitaller of Matanzas ends with much more than what was dreamed of (+photos).

The prestigious jury decided to award the prize to the play «La casa del abuelo» (Grandfather’s House) by the La Rous Company from Spain, performed by the renowned actress Rosa Díaz.

With the spectacular «Clowncierto de Luxe», by Cuban group Teatro Tuyo, the winners of the Xiomara Palacio Award, granted by the XV International Puppetry Festival of Matanzas, and staged in the Hall of Mirrors of the Sauto Theater, National Monument, were announced.

The prestigious jury decided to award the prize to the play «La casa del abuelo» (Grandfather’s House) by La Rous Company, from Spain, performed by the renowned actress Rosa Diaz.

In the minutes he stated his verdict «for the aesthetic, poetic and human qualities of the work, in an impeccable assembly of object theater, its organicity and precision.

«This allows it to acquire universal scope, announcing death as a natural fact of life, to audiences of all ages, with whom it fosters a tender and sensitive communication. We, the members of the jury, were particularly moved by this work».

The jury also conferred sole mention to the play «I want», by Maria Laura Germán, by the group I Want Teatro, from Matanzas, motivated by the «aesthetic and conceptual rigor of the staging, the handling of literary sources and animation techniques, its performance and dramaturgy of remarkable plasticity».

It also awarded prizes to the plays «Pato, Muerte y Tulipán», by Proyecto Perla, from Mexico, and «Secretos bajo la luna», by Teatro La Chimenea, from Cuba.

Eleven plays from Spain, Mexico, Nicaragua, the Basque Country, Puerto Rico, Canada, the United States, the Dominican Republic and Cuba were presented at the event.

At the closing ceremony of the XV International Puppetry Festitaller of Matanzas, its rector, National Theater Award winner Ruben Dario Salazar Taquechel, director of Teatro de las Estaciones, said that this event exceeded the expectations of what was dreamed of, as it managed to expand its power to conferences, exhibitions, presentation of plays, with the prodigious response of the public, which encouraged the intense and hot working days.

He thanked the support of institutions, foreign and Cuban groups for their dedication to the theatrical art for the realization of this workshop, which will return to the stage in two years.

Present at the closing ceremony were Ramón Gómez, member of the Provincial Party Bureau; Osbel Marrero, Director of Culture, the Theater Award winners René Santana and Zenén Calero, together with numerous personalities of the Atenas de Cuba.
