Students fron Matanzas demonstrate their knowledge in National Pre-university Contests (+audio).
A selection of 90 students from Matanzas will represent this western province in the National Contests of Knowledge at the pre-university level, which today February 19th and tomorrow February 20th will be held simultaneously in the country’s Vocational Institutes of Exact Sciences (IPVCE) under the supervision of specialists and officials of the Ministry of Education (Mined).
The IPVCE Carlos Marx, in the Yumurino territory, hosted the competitions of eight of the nine subjects of Sciences and Humanities that were summoned, while the main headquarters of the University of Matanzas took on the contest of Computer Science.
In each subject to be examined, the ten students who achieved the best grades in the provincial competitions competed, who received intensive preparation at the Provincial Training Center for Students of High Academic Performance (CEPARA), located at the IPVCE.
«One of the strengths of this type of event is that it not only prepares talented students to represent Cuba in international competitions, beyond instilling in them the desire to win medals, we work to promote the habit of study and improvement and especially the love for science for the benefit of the country,» said Professor Alfredo Santamarina Linares, coordinator of CEPARA during an interview granted to Radio 26 on Monday minutes before the start of the competitive event.
