El miedo intacto de las cosas comunes, by Tunerian writer Jessica Chabeli Gonzalez Smith, was awarded the Eliecer Lazo literary creation scholarship, as announced on Friday at the Pharmaceutical Museum of the City of Matanzas.

The jury, composed by poet Luis Lexander Pita, Laura Ruiz Montes, poet, translator, playwright, editor and critic and poet, storyteller and editor Náthaly Hernández Chávez highlighted, among other values, «for the refined treatment of the relationship between family and history, the reflections of successful poetic breath about personal life in the midst of collective circumstances and the handling of accurate metaphors in a language worked from a valuable discursive strategy.

«In the strange and difficult days of the months of October and November we read, exchange criteria and observe that the level of participation is not high and does not correspond to the valuable list of young poets that throughout the island are making a work of high values».

Jessica Chabeli González Smith, who will participate in the Matanzas Book Fair in 2025 at the invitation of the Hermanos Saiz Association, studied Foreign Languages, is a poet and storyteller, scriptwriter and radio broadcaster. A member of the Saiz Brothers Association, she was a finalist for the Portus Patris 2022 award and received a mention in the Farraluque prize for erotic poetry.

The award ceremony was preceded by a poetry reading by the members of the jury. Pita, who won the second edition of the contest in 1998, offered the audience four poems between unpublished and published, in which as usual the synthesis and the impact of the message predominate; Laura Ruiz Montes delighted with iconic texts of her literary production and others from the book Agua en canasta, soon to be published by Ediciones Matanzas; while Náthaly unveiled autobiographical poems yet to be brought to light.

They also dedicated a few minutes to remember the poet Eliecer Lazo, his preference for reading and vast culture, the high aesthetic sense of his poetry, the nobility and kindness that characterized him and stressed the need to retake his work to bring it closer to the youngest.
