Matanzas Reported the Highest Incidence of Workplace Accidents in Cuba in 2025

The province of Matanzas led the statistics in fatal outcomes within the country’s workplace environment during the year 2025, according to reports from the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI). That indicator raises alarms about the effectiveness of protection and safety systems in the territory’s production and service centers.

According to official figures, four workers died in their workplaces, two more cases than in the previous year. With this metric, the province not only surpasses its own recent historical records but positions itself above the rest of the national territory in this negative indicator, accompanied by 1,800 workdays lost due to events with disabling consequences.

The context reflects a total of 664 accidents, with 701 workers injured and 38 deceased throughout the Island. Although Havana concentrated the largest number of incidents with 255, Matanzas tragically headed the fatalities.

This atypical behavior suggests that, in the Matanzas territory, accidents during the heavy year had extreme severity, with irreparable outcomes for families and the local productive fabric. The balance is especially worrisome and demands a deep review of occupational safety and health protocols.
