A new city (+audio).

The Varadero Digital City project is beginning to give us a new image of the country’s main tourism center, based on the intensive use of new information and communication technologies.

The project has an agenda for its execution until 2025 in the hands of the Matanzas Science and Technology Park (Cientex) and the collaboration of 85 other entities. It aims to transform the city of Varadero and its surrounding areas of Santa Marta and Boca de Camarioca into areas where digital technologies are present in all aspects of daily life.

For its proper implementation, a field study was conducted to identify the current gaps and use the appropriate tools to fill the existing ones.

For this purpose, knowledge of telecommunications, telematics, automation, information technology and electricity was applied, and resources were distributed in other subsidiary projects of the main framework, such as the digitization of the Varadero tollbooth.

The director of Research and Development of Cientex, Dr. Kenia Viera, offers details of the progress made by the park.

The importance of this program for the Sun and Beach destination is already being visualized.

Its social impact in improving the quality of life and the services provided to the public are already being felt, as well as the progress of e-commerce and e-government, objectives set by the country until the year 2030, and the cultural improvement of the population.
