Creative Continuity in Yumurí 2026

The balance of prizes and honorable mentions awarded at the 34th Yumurí 2026 Film Club Encounter indicates the qualitative continuity of Matanzas talents, lovers of the seventh art.

The jury, composed of Yovany Erbello Calderín as president, plus José Manuel Espino and Yenisbel Martell, conferred the top award on the Cubans in the categories: documentary, «Marcia, más allá del museo» (Marcia, Beyond the Museum), by the duo Dayana González and Leodán Fleitas; animation, «Doble play» (Double Play), by Carlos Daniel Hernández.

Likewise, young Rafael Rodríguez earned prizes in debut work with «Cuando el mundo es rosa» (When the World Is Pink) and in fiction with «El ojo que mira» (The Eye That Watches).

In addition to the Grand Prize of this Yumurino festival, filmmaker Néster Núñez achieved the top award in reportage with «Academia de la rumba» (Rumba Academy) and in video clip for the one titled «Aurora.»

Prizes were conferred by specialty and seven honorable mentions, including a contestant from Brazil, with recognition for the children’s film club from Colombia, participating for the first time.

At the Colón sub-venue, the jury, composed of Lincoln Capote Peón as president, Roberto Capote Peón, and Yoslén Arguiz Mondejar, evaluated the Film Presentation category.

The Grand Prize in the children and adolescents category went to Doniel David Fuentes Chala, a seventh-grade student at the Jesús Villafuerte Mixed Center in the municipality of Martí, for his assessment of the film «Viva Cuba» by director Juan Carlos Cremata.

The effort and results of the organizing committee, headed by Lourdes Alfonso, director of the Provincial Film Center, and critic Mario Rodríguez Naite, National Film Club Prize winner, were indisputable.

Impeccable was the accompaniment to the different events by cultural institutions: the Pharmaceutical Museum and the José White Concert Hall, as well as at the Colón and Cárdenas sub-venues.

There was a presence of established and new creators in the competition that covered various categories and allowed the enjoyment of materials whose content and aesthetics augur the excellent continuity of future audiovisuals — many of these a reflection of Cuban reality and its heroic people.
